Friends of Longford Park (Stretford, Manchester) are a group of local people who work with Trafford Council to improve and promote the park as a vibrant local facility for all age groups.

The Friends have held many successful events ranging from social nights, health walks, music/art/crafts/international festivals, drama events, Teddy Bears’ picnics, christmas carols, tree planting, brass bands, youth activity days and have helped in the creation of a wildlife garden. Find out more about our activities and how the community can develop and shape the future of Longford Park.

One of the most recent community events was the Picnic in the Park featuring the ‘One Love’ Steel band. This took place September 14th 2008 and blessed with September sunshine and great music this was a very popular and enjoyable community event. To host more of these events we do need more volunteers. Please contact us if you can help out.

Longford Park is the largest park in the Trafford borough and is in need of restoration. The Friends of Longford Park believe that the park remains an attractive place to visit, a vital community resource with a rich heritage and has the potential to be an excellent asset for Stretford and the whole of Trafford.

The displayed film illustrates the important role Longford Park has played in the social and civic history of Stretford. Film provided by The North West Film Archive at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Longford Park Matters

The Friends of Longford Park are very disappointed that the Heritage/Lottery Fund(HLF) bid was rejected . The Friends of Longford Park are grateful though for the efforts of Trafford Council in preparing the bid and would like to actively support the submission of a new bid in September 2008.

The outcome of this new bid will not however be announced until 2010. In the meantime we hope that the council will address concerns related to:

  • kids play areas New kids play area completed August 2008. A great improvement!
  • Improved Paths Much appreciated resurfacing of the path to the Firswood/Quadrant park entrance.
  • inadequate toilet facilities
  • improved safety
  • damaged walls
  • grafitti

If you care about Longford Park or would just like to get involved with a worthwhile enjoyable community group then please contact us. If you have comments, suggestions or ideas regarding the future of Longford Park then please add your comments here.
